The breeding of Caridina in Italy is a net growth, increasingly there are people who are dedicated to the selection of these crustaceans reaching considerable levels.
However, this is in sharp contrast to the market where, in recent times, there is a drop in sales in this segment. For this reason we felt it appropriate to bring, even in Italy and in NAQ, an event dedicated to these shrimp.
The purpose is twofold: on the one hand to "sow the seeds" so that the living tissue of big fans can find a meeting point and, perhaps, starting to lay the foundations for an Italian association, and on the other side to spread to all the fans and hobbyists how these crustaceans are easy to breed and to play and beautiful to see.
Indeed, not everyone knows how the majority of Caridina and Neocaridina are easy to manage; there are many species that occupy many different habitats in nature, so you can find a type of shrimp that is easy to breed even for the novice simply by using water from the waterworks. Is enough just a small tank, 10-20 liters, with a few plants easy to manage, mainly mosses, to get some great results. In addition, most of the species reproduces readily and, what is the greater joy for a beginner if not to see new generations in his aquarium?
The Caridina Contest therefore wants to be, first, something dedicated to Italians who love and take delight in the selection of these crustaceans, to try to unite the forces without any unnecessary party system; a competition that is more than a showcase for the good breeders often known only by name or through internet; a means to exit the virtual that often distorts reality and makes us lose that part, which is vital for the growth of the hobby, devoted to "human relations". Secondly, a way to talk about the aquarium and, above all aquarists, even about shrimp, showing them to the public in tanks set up to support the growth of this segment for the benefit of the specific fans and the general movement.
The regulation is very simple, and follows that of the most renowned German Competitions: 9 categories, three placements by category, one Best in Show, etc.. But I think that there will be a real winner only if the contest will reach the expected goals and this is the reason why I invite all fans to participate in large numbers to consolidate the beautiful reality that is the breeding and selection of these shrimp in Italy.
